Sometimes it’s hard to find the words
To say what I truly want to say
It’s like that thing
You know what I’m talking about
These words just won’t come out
They used to flow like a river
But now there is not even a spout
Gap between my brain and mouth
A pause, the umms and humms
Or sometimes they all come out together as one.
New words, I trip over my tongue
That’s chemo on the brain
That makes you feel insane
Because the words you’re searching for don’t come to mind
Or someone tells you directions, that you need them to repeat 5 times
Or
You’re scared you will forget because your brain just isn’t as quick as before
Things that were easy now seem harder or longer to grasp
Wait transfer at Queensboro Plaza to take the train where?
I think I’m going crazy this truly isn’t fair
People won’t believe you,
They say they have that too, but this is different I promise you
Mind the Gap and hopefully this side effect will subside
This brain fog is no joke, I think I wanna hide
My words flow freely with my pen it’s truly night and day
My pen is the sword that chases these chemo blues away.
