Our eyes met in the waiting room, hers younger and bright and a smile that was small but ever present. I don’t recall who spoke first, but that August date in 2024 soon became a fast best friendship of two women battling breast cancer with genetic mutations as well.
Our 3 surgeries were on the same dates – double mastectomies, reconstruction and hysterectomies. Now we’ve both been through 2 revision surgeries too. We text daily, call, send cards, gifts, visit for lunch and connect on a deep level for so many reasons.
Knowing we can reach out at any time and will be right there for each other is such warmth and a blessing. I can’t explain it other than to say we are walking like soul sisters through this together and are there for each other no matter what. We laugh and can share our stories, concerns, questions and more – being as we’ve had the same surgeries, healing together has been helpful too.
I just love her madly and being stuck with cancer and a genetic mutation has been better because I have her.
