a common misconception

there’s a sense of shame casted over us,
as if we aren’t back to living up to society’s expectations…

questions about getting jobs or jumping right back to where we left off before our diagnosis.

it’s not for a lack of trying, you know.
there are a lot of things that fill my head…

doubt.
expectations.
insecurities.

have you ever feared your mind constantly letting you down?
have you ever wanted to be able to drop all the weight of reality off of your shoulders?
have you ever felt the disconnect between your mind and your body?

despite your assumptions,
I’m not putting off going back to work because I want an endless vacation.
I’m not avoiding the real world because I’m lazy.
I’m not jumping back into the vicious cycle that is work culture because I’ve realized the value of my life.

cancer and adulting brings an entirely new perspective to life.
and for all the choices that cancer robbed me of,
the least you can do is allow me to choose how I spend the rest of my days.
