The side effects sheet is so long, I could wrap it around me like a foreboding hug.
The warning label is bright yellow and warns “CAUTION-HAZARDOUS DRUG.”
Every sign is there to warn me away,
yet I take it every single day.
This medicine is poison, though it keeps me alive.
To see it as hope, you’d have to see it through my eyes.
When I see this medical paradox, I used to see fear.
I now see a miracle, though they’ve made the danger clear.
Every night, I choke it down and pray,
Lord, let this poison make a way.
