Memories of a Different Christmas

The December that changed my family’s life was during the pandemic. At first it was a little weird because I could not go to school, see my friends face to face, or go to church. Then it became kinda fun because I got to spend more time with my family. I got to see my teacher and friends on a zoom call. I was feeling so happy and excited to have an elf on the shelf for the first time. We named him buddy. I would get up early just to find our elf. Me and my family put up hearts on our windows to show our community hope and love. I remember my mom started to go to the doctor a lot. One snowy night, we were going to Starbucks and my mom got a call from the doctor so she parked. She got out of the car and I was nervous because she never gets out of the car. Then she started crying. I was scared because she never cries and my brother started asking me why is mom crying but I did not know. My mom finally told me that she had metastatic breast cancer. I felt sad so instead of asking Santa for gifts I asked him to make my mom better and I wanted her to live.

Today my mom is doing much better and is stable.
