ABVD – A Poem

by Rachel FordSurvivor, Hodgkins LymphomaNovember 10, 2020View more posts from Rachel Ford

From the author: “The title ABVD in reference to the chemo regime I have.”

My life is fleeting
Lullaby songs turn to buzzes to the nurse
How deceitful a body such as mine
Hiding this horror so that
My life is fleeting
Red poison, fire spilling
Flooding into my veins so brutally beautiful
The scars on my body are reminders that
My life is no longer fleeting
And I will continue to go forth
It’ll be for the symphony of screams
and the ring of a bell sat on a hospital floor
No middle night nightmares
No forgetting
No pain, and when
My life is truly fleeting
I will KNOW pain.
This is something I can handle now.
