“Poetry is for everyone.” There is so much power and beauty in art’s ability to be therapeutic for ourselves, as well as a way to let us uniquely share (and share in) the gift and sense of human connection with others. This event was created to help make that power and that gift more accessible to all, including (and specifically) those who might be new to poetry, and even those who have never imagined that they themselves could write a poem–but who are excited by the promise of its possibility.
Designed with simple scaffolding, prompting, and a “mad libs” inspired structure that makes it easy (foolproof!) for beginners to flex their creative and poetic muscles, this workshop will be a casual yet supportive and heartfelt space for people to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a (guided) poetic form. It will also be a space for sharing in community with everything that poetry is simply and ultimately a medium for expressing: the celebration, the mourning, the reflecting, and everything in between or across the entire complex spectrum of our lived and shared human experiences.
Note: this workshop is designed for beginners, but people of all experience levels and backgrounds are welcome (and encouraged!) to join.
