Being a Kid Again: Making a Bird-feeder
This month I made a bird feeder, only Popsicle sticks and a hot glue gun. If you don’t want to use a hot glue gun you can optionally use wood glue, or tacky glue. It just might take a bit longer to put together. Now this project only took me about 2 hours, but I was solely focused on the project. If you want to take your time… go ahead I won’t judge. The steps include pictures to go along so you can follow it a bit more easily.
Step 1: Acquire glue gun, glue sticks, Popsicle sticks and paint if you want. Paint all the sticks before going onto the next steps, if you are going to use paint. |
Step 2: Lay Popsicle sticks out in a row. For jumbo sticks use 8, for regular sticks use 12. Use glue gun to glue 2 sticks horizontal onto the sticks laying in a row. |
Step 3: Glue sticks end to end and repeat up to 10 times. Create a semi enclosed box. |
Step 4: Glue 4 Popsicle sticks upright to box, and glue Popsicle sticks across the uprights. |
Step 5: Create a triangle on each of the uprights. |
Step 6: Shingle or overlay the Popsicle sticks until you reach the top of the triangle. |
Step 7: This one is optional, use glue to adhere stick to middle of the box. So the birds can land and eat the seeds. |

I made the feeder as a present for my father who is an avid bird watcher, so we tied string to it and hung it on a tree. It made me feel like a school girl again to do craft projects and bring it home to my family.
My mantra for this month is “You hurt, because you are alive”
