SUMMARY:Parenting with Advanced Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Parenting with Advanced Cancer Panel\nRegister here\nWednesday, September 10 @ 10 am PT/11 am MT/12 pm CT/1 pm ET\nCancer incidence is on the rise for young adults, many of whom are parenting young children and having to face the reality of an advanced or chronic diagnosis. It’s not an experience that many people can relate to–even cancer support groups tend to be filled with peers who will finish treatment and find a new normal. How do you hold space for a serious diagnosis while still tending to tantrums, potty training, and bedtime stories? How can you help your little ones with their big feelings while you are still trying to make sense of yours? How much do you share with your kids? What do they need to feel secure during a time of uncertainty? Hear from a group of parents who are living through these questions and finding their way.\nThis panel is moderated by Deltra James who co-facilitates the Bright Spot Network Parents with Stage IV Cancer Virtual Support Group and the Parents of Color Virtual Meet-up Group. She is a single mama to 5 girls who found herself on cancer’s radar at 33 years old despite it not being on hers, due to a lack of knowledge of her family’s medical history. Since receiving a de novo diagnosis of Triple Negative metastatic breast cancer she has cultivated healing through community and advocacy work with a focus on mental/emotional wellness, addressing disparities due to race and income, connecting parents and children to resources to aid in successfully navigating the rocky terrains of the cancer landscape and alleviating death anxiety/practicing death preparedness with patients and their families through her work as a death doula.\n
